Life on the 'ledge - Baffin Big Walls 2010

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - Day 24, South Tower of Paine, Patagonia

During May 2010, Wales-based Big Wall climbers Mike ‘Twid’ Turner, Stuart McAleese and Mark Thomas will head to the remote Arctic island of Baffin. Objective: an unclimbed, mile-high vertical wall. The new climb will take around eighteen days to ascend. The climbers will be living and sleeping on the wall on portaledges, climbing ‘capsule style”.

The climbers will need to cope with constant freezing conditions, 6ft x 4ft hanging tents, frozen everything and roaming polar bears.

Follow the team climbing, living and hanging out, suspended thousands of feet above the Arctic wastelands.

“You are a great team with a very worthwhile, challenging objective. The very best of luck.”

Sir Chris Bonington CBE
